MEDICAL MISSION INVITATION
We have recently had the opportunity to focus on overseas missions and hear about some great works that are supported by this congregation. These works are successful because of your involvement, funds and prayers. Let me tell you about another mission you can take part in. I have been asked to lead a medical mission team to Georgetown, Guyana, South America this summer. Though I did not participate last year, I either led or was a part of medical mission teams to Georgetown the five previous years.
This mission is overseen by Partners in Progress and will be supervised in Guyana by Steve DeLoach who has served there for many years. The team serving in Guyana this summer will be made up of Christians from Ohio, New Hampshire, Tennessee and perhaps Arkansas and Brazil. I invite whoever is willing from Hermitage to serve on this team along side these other committed Christians. It will be a blessing to those who participate as well as those whom we serve in Guyana.
Let me offer some reasons you might want to participate in this short term mission:
1. Guyana is a fertile ground for the gospel. Though this is a medical mission, what we can offer medically is limited to first care, medicine and advice. More importantly we provide eternal spiritual “wellness” to anyone who wants it through the gospel of our Lord. Our true mission there is souls.
2. This mission will build in us an evangelistic spirit and help us with our evangelistic efforts here at home. We want people from this congregation to be part of the mission team. As such, each participant will take part in Bible studies and will gain experience in sharing the word with others. Success in teaching the gospel in Guyana should help motivate us to teach here at home.
3. Guyana’s language is English. This allows us to directly communicate. Not only will we be teaching the lost, we will be encouraging and mentoring the local Christians in their evangelistic efforts. While we are there, we will be a part of a local congregation; building relationships with them and working with them, side by side, to serve our Lord.
4. This mission is a particularly good opportunity for teens to experience evangelistic work, a different culture in the church and an opportunity to build relationships with Christians from many different places and backgrounds.
Please prayerfully consider serving with us there.
